Just picked up my 2022

So I was at the gun store inspecting my gun and when the magazine(empty of course) was in the gun the slide would not move back. I was able to get it to move back every now and then. Without the magazine it slide back completely fine. We tried a new magazine and it was much better then. We loaded some snap caps in and it seemed to work fine. Then it started working perfectly and I have yet to have the problem since the. Cycled the slide a couple dozen times with and without snap caps. Any idea if I should be concerned or not? I'll probably shoot this thing today. Anything I should do before I shoot it? I have lubed it up with some hopes gun oil.

Also with the grip plates there are two. Is the one with 3 dots on the inside the large one?

Congrats on your purchase. Search the forums with key words "SP2022" "Grip" "Sizes".
Someone here (I forget who) posted the part numbers located in the area where the hammer would be that gives the size of the grip.
The slide release may have not been fully inserted at first causing you the locked slide problem.
As long as you have cleaned the factory preservative and replaced it with some gun oil, it should be good to go.
Enjoy your new 2022, I know I do mine. Every chance I get.

Part number 1600003 (the 3 dots) is the skinnier hand grip, it's narrower towards the back of the grip. I believe the grip that comes on it is the medium grip. I could be wrong though.

These are fantastic handguns. I fall more and more in love with mine everytime I shoot it.

It didn't want to lock back because it had the CA magazines :P

That may have been it because I did remove the slide while I was there to try and find any signs of wear on the slide stop or where the magazine might cause the stoppage. I don't think it worked any better after the first time I put it back together, but I did it a second time and it may have worked better after that.

How do I remove the preservative? Just regular old gun solvent? I have hoppes 9. Also the gun was essentially bome dry.

The grip with the last number (2) is the medium grip. The one with the last number (3) is the large grip. I wondered the same thing and searched for the answer.

Mine was very tight to begin with too. Just keep working the slide and shoot it a lot. It will loosen up nicely. I really like mine. A great gun for a good price.

Congrats on your new acquisition!!! I see that you got the laser for it... my buddy got one with his SP2022 also... NOTE: He was complaining about how quick the batteries went dead on the laser. It only lasted one session at the range.

If it appeared bone dry then just a cleaning with Hoppes #9 should do the trick. Clean as you normally would. If you could see a thick build up of old sticky stuff then a more thorough cleaning would have been needed.

Yeah, mine was caked in this really sticky grease. I cleaned it well and applied a generous amount of oil, worked the slide a lot then wiped away the excess.

I lived in La Habra from 2001 to just this may. I've only been in brea for about 6 months. Where in La Habra did you live?

I haven't shot this thing yet I'm hoping to shoot this weekend but we'll see. I'm going shooting on thanksgiving.
