Yes, you can. If the newly acquired kit doesn't fit right, you can ship it to SIG and they will have the gunsmith adjust the slide to fit your frame.

I have to ship mine to them today due to an issue with my x-change kit (not a problem similar to yours).

I will probably have the trigger worked on as well when I send it out.

interesting.

Can you convert .40 to 9mm with a SIG kit or is the way to do this just a Bar Sto barrel?

I went Bar-sto with great sucess. I used a 9mm recoil spring, and my 40 magazines.
I understand an exchange will work if you have a newer frame. My 229 is from mid 90s.

.40 to 9mm can be done with the Bar Sto and proper spring, IIRC. The other option is to pick up the x-change kit.

I'm not certain if there is much more play with the barrel in the slide, I just know members have done it with the additional barrel.

Cost-wise, I'm not certain the difference. I know you can get x-change kits for somewhere around $260-270, so there's probably not a huge difference ($30-60 depending on options) unless you're looking for a match barrel.

My Bar-sto ran approx 200.00 from Top Gun.
The conversion barrel is built out to match the 40 barrel. Fit on mine was very good. Top gun and Bar-sto say it may need fitting and bar-sto has a service for that. A local gunsmith can fit them.
My Bar-sto is a lot more accurate than the Sig 40 barrel. Very nice to shoot as well. Best gun related decision I ever made. Cheaper accurate target shooting, and 40 for serious time.

Thanks!

And thanks to DNS--didn't mean to hijack the thread, but the conversion issue is something I have been trying to learn about, too.
