938 drawing blood on thumb

I have put 600 or so rounds thru my 938. First documenting before sending back to Sig, then testing after. I am quite satisfied with the little guy overall. The trigger is just fine with me, both pull and serrations. A touch of oil is all it needed for me.
The one thing for me I have heard no mention of.
When I grip it my thumb is touching the safety on the left side about 3/8" foward of the web. As I shoot it wears an abrasion, and after 150 rounds, enough to bleed. When I shoot about every weekend it never heals.
I have been considering removing the safety and reshaping the end of it, beyond the lever.
Is this happening to anybody else?
I guess I could wear a fingerless glove. I hate wearing gloves even shotguning clays in the winter.

Tried lowering my grip. Just doesn't work for me. I have big hands and the grip just isn't very big. I just now thought that a bandaid might fix it.
