If you have a German made Classic Sig and want to know the date it was produced, this may be of help. This has been posted on other forums but I have not seen it discussed here.

I recently acquired a SIG226 from a friend. I've been trying to date it, but having issues...
The slide indicates that it was made in W. Germany in 1980!!! I am pretty sure SIG226s werent made as early as that...I need to check the serial number against the prototype SIG226 serial number list I just found online.
Anyone know if they were making these by 1980?
I've shot the gun (about 300rnds) and it is sooooo sweet to shoot...much nicer than my Glock23.

Realizing this is a 3-year old thread, I still would like to input my SIG P232 to the list of serial numbers and ages (or date of manufacture).

P-232 (232-380-SSS) S -323xxx (it has no other letters but DE, which I assume is DEutschland). According to the case, it was manufactured in March 2013.

newer SIGs are easier to date 'cuz they have the date on the box...yours is newer than any on that old list and I'd bet it would be the date on your case...March 2013...enjoy your German P232...

back "in the day" we didn't have the luxury of having a date code on the box or case...you had to guess or go by the resource bearone2 provided above...you could buy a SIG but have no idea how long it was sitting on someone's shelf...

Made in Germany P226

Hi Guys, just picked up a German P226 at a show last weekend, stickers on the original case date it to 2011. This pistol has the triple serial numbers and came with night sights. My question here is I have only been able to find one other like mine on the web at Gunbroker, that one has Made in Germany on the left side of the slide. Mine has Made in Germany on the right side of the slide. Anyone got any info as to the significance of this? And what would the ballpark value and collectability be for mine? This baby doesn't have a scratch except the smile on the barrel.

Sig P220 date

I have an early Sig P220, marked Montage Suisse on the right side of the slide. This was a Swiss Police pistol. No German marks anywhere on it just the Swiss proof. Serial number is G1126XX. The grips are marked 78. This has the early carbon steel slide that has the dimple in the middle of the top just forward of the chamber. Any help in dating this one is appreciated.

Back in the late 70's early 80's I had an old BDA, dated HH/77 (precursor to the Sig P220) with the euro mag release. Great shooter, but a pain in the butt for reloading when qualifying at the range. So in March of 86 a friend of mine called me about my current P220. So I traded the BDA for her. She's made in West Germany and dated JG/86. She's had who knows how many rounds through the barrel and has never given me one bit of trouble. I had the slide re finished about 13 years ago Even though we are both retired, she's still my **** sidearm of choice.
