If you have a German made Classic Sig and want to know the date it was produced, this may be of help. This has been posted on other forums but I have not seen it discussed here.

Thanks, I was planning on that....I was told that the parts are German but was assembled here in the U.S. Hence no proof marks. You can really tell the difference in the machining...It has the breech block, and the top of the slide is ramped as well. "Made in Germany" is stamped on the slide.

Im looking at possibly purchasing a used Sig P220 that they claim is W German but stampings are on the slide. Appears to have a single pin behing the ejection port.
Ser is G146372. I'm trying to get the letters that will tell the year.
Anyone have any info based on these details so far and possible average value if in good condition?

Thanks

non standard grips/screws but if the slide & barrel have the same s/n as the box & it's in decent shape, $450-500.

I just bought a new Sig P229 in two tone with beavertail and in 9mm which I received from Europe , the slide says "made in Germany" and the frame is marked " D E " , and the serial states MD 167xxx ( six digits) therefore it should be a german made Sig, can anyone tell me how to tell the production date please?,
Thank you guys

Just picked up a used P220. I believe it's an LE trade in. Nothing stamped on the bottom of the slide. SIG SAUER stamped on the left side of the breach block. Blue plastic serial numbered case with no date on it anywhere that I can find. The owners manual was printed 6/1/01. Didn't check the inside of the grips when I had them off. Serial number G 346 XXX. Can anyone give me a manufacture date?

Thanks,

HSG

Thank you for your help I should then be a 2009 production
I had read that there was a slide crack report in A Swiss police dept. happened on a Sig P229 serial reference "Al xxxxxx" . Worried if this case would include the "Am" series which I purchased However had a telephone discussion about that with a Sig Sauer service personnel who advised me not to worry. Would you guys have an opinion about that? Should I write to Sig Sauer in order to obtain a writeen answer? Thanks guys

Thanks for Bearone2
appears my P229 is a 2009 production
However had read that a Swiss police personnel had a slide crack on a P229
Using police 9mm 124 gr. rounds . the cracked gun serial mentioned "AL xxxxxx" . I am worried about my P229 which serial mentions"AMxxxxxx" I called Sig Customer service who told me not to worry at all. Do you think I better write to Sig in order to obtain a written answer? Thanks guys

de means german & not a date code......bd is the date code/'13, confirm that the bbl has the matching sn to frame & slide.

if bbl sn doesn't match the frame/slide, the bbl was changed at some point.

stamps are proof marks & yours is the 1st 229 i've seen with proof marks.

here's a pic of a 5 1/2" 220 sport bbl with "kk/'99" date code to the right of the arrow & you'll see proof marks, if you can zoom in on the pic.

Proof marks and date letters on my Sig P229

Thank you vm for your valuable informations regarding the marks on my Sig P229 barrel . The barrel's firing block bears the same serial number stamped on the slide and on the frame ( on the right side of the barrel) and on the left side the firing block bears the proof marks, the letters D E , and then the letters BD.
Sending the pictures of the barrel.

P229 help

Hi guys, new to the forum. Have been reading this thread and trying to figure out when my sig p229 was made. Its a non-railed model and the serial# is AL 83 xxx. The frame is marked with both the Exeter, NH and made in Germany. However, I cant find any markings on the slide. But it is a short serrations version. I'm asking because I want to know which 9mm exchange kit to buy as i is a .40 cal now. Also if I needed to replace any parts the date may help. Thanks in advance for the help
