Slide not locking on p226 tac ops

Hey all,

I am new to the world of forums and semi new to the world of hand guns. I recently purchased a p226 tac ops .40 s&w and love it. I got out and shot it for the first time a few weekends back and had only one issue, sparatically the slide would not lock after firing the last round. The gun is new with mec-gar mags. I was firing sellier and bellot .40 s&w that I had bought bulk. I was thinking that the issue was a result of poor ammo. Any suggestions?

I never had any issues like this with my p229 9mm.

I have the Tacops myself in 9mm. I haven't had any lock back issues on mine so far. I've shot UMC and Winchester white box out of it both 115gr with zero issues. I'm not familiar with the .40 but I'll be keeping my eyes open for anything I can find on the issue.

Thanks! It was pretty weird because it did not happen after every mag. I wonder if it could of had something to do with my thumb possibly coming in contact the with slide release. But I wasn't paying attention to my thumb placement at the time.

That's one possibilty. Could also be a weak follower spring in some of your mags not allowing the followers to engage the slide lock in time on your last round. I've only got about 350 rounds through my 9 but I'll be putting about 5-600 down the pipe this saturday and really give it a work out. My Tacops is the threaded barrel model so I'm not sure if the extra half inch might have anything at all to do with it either but after this weekend I plan on putting up a little review on it. Like I've said I've had zero issues other than the thread protector backing off while I shoot but I can live with it!

That's true. I have five mec-gar mags so I will just have to cycle through all of them while making sure to keep my thumb clear and see if I have any issues with specific mags. Enjoy this weekend! I will be up at bow hunting camp this weekend so I do think I will be shooting much. I am waiting on my CZ-75b to show up before I head back up in the hills to play!

I'm gonna pick up a few of the Mec-Gars myself sooner or later. I have 4 of the made in the USA checkmate mags. Heard some bad things about them but haven't had a problem yet! but I'd like a few extras just to be able to have them loaded up in case I needed them.

Yeah I hear you there. I have five mags for my p226, five for my p229 and three for my Glock 27. My CZ-75b comes with three mags, so I will be pretty well loaded down. I was fortunate that my p226 came with four mec-gar mags, so I only had to order one more. Greg Cote, LLC is a great site to check out for mags. That is who I order through.

Thanks bear1! I'm hoping that it was my thumb placement. I never had the problem with my p229 but who knows. Next time I head up to shoot I will make sure to be very conscious of my thumb placement and see if that makes a difference!

Yeah the 4 mags was a big plus to me when I got mine! After I looked at the price tag of the mags and the extras that came with the gun it was a pretty easy choice between the Tacops and the Mk25.

I definitely agree. I already had my p229 in 9mm so I wanted to get something in .40 that I could also convert to .357 sig with just a barrel swap. The sights for the .40 and .357 sig do sit a bit differently but that can be corrected by sight placement and knowing where to make your adjustments when aiming. But the number of mags that came with the tac ops was a huge plus.

Yeah I've got a Springfield XDm .45 that I love the hell out of but I was wanting an all metal pistol plus the P226 is a lot cheaper to feed in 9mm and I love my dads P228 I'm also prior Navy so the Mk25 was lookin good to me but the Tacops was just too good to pass up to me! I don't have a whole lot of rounds through it yet but my XDm is lookin a bit jealous here lately!

If it is mags. I suggest you number the mags. (I use masking tape). Keep a record to isolate what mag (s) are causing the problem.
Put a small dab of grease on the slide release, and then avoid using it.
If you touch it you will know where and how it happens.

There is an outside chance it could be the recoil spring. A new spring is cheap and never hurts.

That would have to be a pretty akward grip to come in contact with the SSL. Are you shooting thumbs up?
