I just do it online because it only takes a minute or two, and it's much more convenient than filling out the card and taking it to the mailbox.

It is my understanding that you don't have to "activate" it as long as you keep a copy of your receipt. I did mine online however. That way I would also be informed of any recalls/etc in the very unlikely chance that such would happen.

This is a common misconception. You need not do anything to "activate" a warranty. The card that comes with a gun is, frankly, a data collection tool and nothing more. The same with the online site. I recommend that you do neither. All they are doing is collection your name and contact info so they can sell it.

tell you what, on this one i've got to disagree with you.

with all the sigs i've registered over many years, i've haven't seen many bogus emails that i could/can attribute to registering with sig because i don't get a lot of bogus emails from anyone.

I activated mine online, but when I talked to CS about sending it for repair I still had to give them all my info. I thought that by registering online I won't have to do it. They would just pull it from their database using my name or phone number or serial number. It does not work that way. So what they collecting all the info for?

Most of those questions are geared towards demographical information that SIG can use to increase the effectiveness of the marketing of their products. It is also used so that SIG knows what products to keep and what products to start producing.

I sent the card in that came with my P238. About a week later I got a phone call from a Sig employee wanting to know how I liked my new gun. We had a pleasant 10 minute conversation. I was very impressed. I have bought many new guns from other companies and no one ever called to see how I liked it. It is my first Sig and I may get more!

nice to hear about the call.

i think the online way gets you on the mailing list & you get a code for x% off on purchases.
