first SIGS, first gun purchases!

Gents,
First two handgun purchases, first two SIGs. the first was a CPO 229R in .40. CPO date of 12 Mar 12 and a serial of AL 55 XXX. I got a great deal as the gun was NIB. no wear on any internal parts upon inspection which validated this for me. is that unusual? came with two 12 rd mags (one stamped 94 and the other 10), the manual, a lock, the short trigger and extractor, and contrast sights.

229 .22LR; no special info, just right out of the box. cleaned the grease off. haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but have hand cycled and it has no problems feeding Remington Golden Bullets with the exception of the first round. i have been loading 10 rds. i have already disassembled the mag and cleaned the flash, etc. we'll see how she does when it is actually fired.

new to SIGs (decoding serials, etc), and, especially the CPO program, so any info about my particular pistol would be appreciated. i believe it was made somewhere around 2003 if i had to guess.

some cpo's appear to be new, could have been xferred to a le agency, never issued & returned to sig.

i had a red box 220 cpo that did this.

notice i said "red box", that's what makes a cpo a cpo.
no matter what the seller says, no red box, not a cpo & no 1 year guarantee to original purchaser of the cpo.

post a pic of the label please.

you got a nib 229 with rail, with a gray box.
i've got 3 of them, one an abxxx/'92/40 & two adxxx/'94's/357sig, no rail.

From what I see the mag has a lot more wear than the 229.
It has been my used experience that there are tons of people that buy a gun, and never shoot it. I have bought many guns that look almost unfired.
Since you got a 40 you can go conversion to a 357sig or better to 9mm.
Sig conversion slides are available, or I had great sucess with a Bar-sto conversion barrel from Top gun. The mags handle 40-357sig-9mm great, since Sig made them to.
I needed a 9mm recoil spring to get it flawless.
Cheaper 9mm target and 40 when you are serious. best gun buy I ever made.
While I am an addicted serial trader, I will never trade my 229 because or the versitility.

I got it in a red cardboard box with a red band around the grips and the one year warranty. The owners manual has a red "preowned" stamp on it. The case actually came from customer service. I bought it to be able to lock it.

Pretty sure it had never been fired. I disassembled it, even taking the locking block and trigger out, and their was almost no wear.

You did really well!!

The P229 is an awesome world class pistol and one of my top favorites. IMO possibly the best .40 pistol available.
