Range report of Winchester Super-X and P-229 .22LR
I am trying different .22 brands to see what works for my 229 .22LR conversion kit. i haven't tried CCI mini mags yet as we all know they work. plus, it is getting harder to find. Shot a box of 100 36 gr Remington Golden Bullets with 1 ftl as it had a misshapen case and one ftf. fired on second strike. absolutely loved them. I just ordered a bulk box of 525 rnds.
yesterday, i shot a box of 100 40 gr Winchester Super-X Power Points (both remington and Winchester were CCHPs)
Accuracy was awesome. one one grouping at 15 yds i had four rnds through the same hole. and they were pretty inexpensive at $7.82 for 100. now for the bad; the only way i could get these to load reliably was to run a bore snake through the barrell every two mags max. after cleaning, it would shoot around two mags and then, quickly deteriorate until you had to hand cycle the slide for every round. run the snake through the barrell and it was back to firing consistantly.
only had 1 ftf. again, it fired on second strike.
ran same hoppes grease for both types of ammo. dont think this is a factor as the Rem had no problems at all and it is a lower velocity than the winchester. the winchester says it has a 'Luballoy' coating. i was assuming this was what they called the copper, but maybe not?
on a separate note, any writeups on how to adjust the sights? specifically, the procedures with the hex keys, etc?

My sights were good to go right from the box. I use the hex key after every range trip during cleaning to ensure the rear sight is still tight as my screws seem to loosen over time. The 2 screws are located on the top of the rear sight. The hex key should just fit in the holes. As far as adjusting the sights they are fairly basic. Windage on the right side and elevation on top. I have found an appropriate screwdriver is a better tool than the adjustment tool provided. Hope this helps.
Mine likes golden bullets and mini mags as well
