hello guys,

i am new to the sig worlkd. i have only owned glocks and s&w previously and i am in the market of a gun to keep at home. already have my ccw gun, so this is for home/truck.

what would you recommend as my first full/med size sig pistol. i would like 40 or 45 cal.

looks as though i have a ton of choices, so i was hoping to narrow it down to a full to med size weapon.

Welcome to the forum first of all!

For your description, I would recommend in 40 the 229 (compact/medium) or the 226 (full size) Either one would do fine in 40.

For 45, there is no question, the venerable 220.

My choices would be:

226

229

in .40 S&W - .357 SIG barrels can change either up later.

Go with which ever feels better in your hand - they are both excellent sidearms. IMHO

Here is my suggestion:

For 45 ACP, I would get the P220. For the 40 cal, I would go with the P226.

The 220 has a great feel and balance - but it only comes with the big bullet.

The 229 and 226 are wide guns - you might not like it if you are used to a more compact Glock/S&W

Check out the P250 line if you are transitioning from a polymer gun. Trigger pull is very smooth and I like the value you get for the money.

Pretty much what everyone said...full size 220 for .45 or 226 for .40/.357SIG. For compact, 229 in .40.

I'll add to goingquiet and throw out the SP2022 for a good polymer. Sweet, sweet trigger.

I'll take a 229 over a 226, the balance is perfect, especially for concealed carry. I like the 226 and the 220, but the 229 just right.

If you can get some place to have the opportunity to handle and possibly shoot examples of what you are looking for, I would lean towards the one that you feel most comfortable with ergonomically. How it feels to you is more important than how it feels to those making the recommendations, myself included.

The P229 is my choice. As with the Glock you will feel the quality of the P229 and when you shot it, you may like it better than the Glock. I have the P229 in 9mm and 40S&W - I really like the Sigs weight.
