Talking New guy to Sig Talk Forum

Hello everyone. New to the forum and wanted to say Hi. I have my first Sig on layaway now. A new P226 X-Five Competition in 9mm.

I made the purchase to have a good big game dispatch weapon but admittedly also wanted to add to my home defense armaments.

I have several other weapons from various manufactureres such as my Mossberg 930 Semi 12 GA and 410, a Walther P22 and a couple of Marlins, I had always wanted a nice defense handgun. And even though I realize that the P226 X-Five is an exteremely pricey weapon, I went to the gun shop and tried a couple of others and they just didn't feel right in my hand. They were OK. But just that. OK.

But when the dealer handed me the X-Five, the words "Oh My God" literrally came out of my mouth. It felt like the sky's parted and Angels started to sing. It was such a fine weapon above and beyond in fit and finish that I had to have it. So I bought it. Or at least will in a month or so. I have to also admit that the present political situation had something to do with my purchase decision also. But that's another story. So now that I have found Sig Talk, I will start doing some research and see what kind of information I can use and hopefully be helpful to other members in the future. Have a great New Year everyone.

But here's my first question. And I think the answer is No. Does anyone make a Kit for the X-Five to take it from 9mm to a 357? Or even .40 to a 357? I know they have 40 to 9mm kits. But I just haven't seen anything for the lighter to heavier loads.

Welcome to SigTalk. I too am a newbie. Got my first Sig (an SP2022 in 9mm) a week ago. Been a long gun owner/shooter since I was a boy. I have a pair of pre-64 Winchesters.

I've seen kits that go from .40 to .357 but none that go from .40/.357 to 9mm or back.

The Sig store does list a conversion to .22lr for the 226

Nice Start Trek pic. I think it was Bud's Gun Shop that I saw the 40 to 9 conversion. And since I have the 9mm on layaway, I was thinking that maybe I should switch my purchase to the .40 because it might be possible in the future to get a 357 since it is smaller in diameter. But for the X-Five, it's a bit of a different beast although I'm not exactly sure what are the differences from a regular P226.

But Thanks for the warm welcome. Have a great day.

bearone2 Thanks. That was the website I was looking for. I checked it last week but somehow missed the barrel conversion for .40 to .357 to 9mm. They list a Target Match Barrel. Very cool.

Now for the new question. Does the P226 .357 magazine fit the X-Five?

This is great news! Yea! I'm so excited because I was actually hoping to be able to hunt deer with it next year but .357 is considered the smallest handgun caliber that would be effective. The 9mm would do the job but the wound channel would have meant that it may leave too small a blood trail and make it very hard to find my game after the shot because the chances are very good it will take off. Shot placement is already enough to worry about. Now I'm REALLY excited!

usually it's just a barerel swap for the 229, dunno about the x-5. if you wan to go the swap around route I'd get a 229 to play with. that comp is too nice to be fecking with, even though it's a figging HUGE gun

I would also like to mount my Insight MRDS onto it. It's presently mounted on my Mossberg 930 which I use for wing shooting but I wouldn't want to mount a cheap Red Dot onto the X-Five because I think the slide recoil would eat em up. I know the X-Five is a really nice rig but I'll do my best to take care of it. But USE it too. LOL.

Bar-sto makes very accurate barrels. I got a 9mm conversion for my 229-40 just to target cheaper. The accuracy amazed me. On the 226 and 229 the mags will handle all 3 rounds. 40, 357, and 9mm. I did need a 9mm recoil spring.
I never seen an x5 up close so I don't know on that.
Bar-sto has a very long wait time. Order thru Top gun and you'll get it quickly.
