This is a discussion on P224 being discontinued? within the SIG Sauer Pistols forums, part of the SIG Sauer Forum category; I was told the P224 is being discontinued, any truth to this? Seems like they have all the issues ironed out and it's working fine. ...

This has been speculated for about 6 months or more but I continue to see new ones delivered to my LGS and there have been reports of 3/2016 build dates here as well. So in typical SIG fashion, who really knows.

They were on an early list of discontinued models (along with a LOT of others) for 2016.
But the list "withdrawn," ostensibly due to the fact that they hadn't fully decided which ones in the list were going to really be discontinued. I haven't seen an updated list.

I think Sig needs to get back to basics. Make a gun, and make it well. Maybe offer three levels of the gun and that's it. Basic, intermediate, and high end. Other than that it's too many variations. Or for other models go with basic, da/sa, sao. Then offer the upgrades to purchase seperately. But damn, really.... how many variations of the same gun do we need. Back in the old days you could order a vehicle with the options you wanted. That was 30+ years ago. To be competitive, now you get a couple performance packages and that's it. It's sad that Sig is going down in quality. Do one thing and do it well, out sell the competitors because of quality/price/reliability and stay on the leading edge of development. Damn I'm promoting a Glock type brand. Do you want to be the best or just be? There are HiPoints that shoot more reliably than some of these Sigs that are coming out of the factorys. The basic design is fine, but the variables are killing a brand that I love. The quality control is way too loose. I grew up on Sigs, a time when plastic Glocks were questionable. Sig stood still and lived off their reputation and previous designs. Glock improved and marketed themselves. Glock/S&W are good guns, but I want to puke when I say that. I have had a Glock for over 20 years (g23) and I cant bring myself to convert over to a glock for a carry gun. But when there isn't any aftermarket parts for your gun you have to make a choice. Now I'm not there yet, but if Sig can't improve their quality/reliability then I will have no choice but to convert to S&W or Glock simply due to the amount of aftermarket parts. I'm sorry for the rant, but it is stupid from going from an elite brand to hoping my new gun shoots first time out. It should be a given.
Oh Lord Jesus Christ.... please don't make me have to covert to a Glock.
I don't think I could stand all the s**t talk from the Glock lovers.
Long Live Sig

I'm not sure that anything is set in stone. In my neck of the woods there continue to be new P224's and P220 Compact Carry's in gun shops with recent (2016 build dates). There are plenty of popular Sigs that continue to be produced and sell well that aren't featured in the current Sig catalog (just look at the P229 section...).

Are there some other brands that are as good as SIG? Sure. Are there any that are better? Not on your life.

My SIG P224 SAS DAK 9MM was Mfg 8 March 2016. Caught it during a yearly Sale at Defender Outdoors here in Fort Worth for $549 today. Ran 100 rounds thru it, no problems of course. I did have to get used to what they call a DAK trigger, I call it DAO. Once I figured out how to stage the trigger all the hits at 7 yards were right on.
I cant find it however, on the SIG Web site so I assume it has been discontinued. I was glad to find out my P229 mags fit it though.
