I bought a couple of new Sigs, and I have a question

I bought a Sig P229R in .40 S&W Tac Pac with the holster, light/laser, and a couple of magazines.

I don't like the grip on the P229R (I've got very big hands and need all the grip I can get). So I bought a used one like on my 9mm to put on it. I'll keep the original and put it in the box.

I also bought a Sig M11a1 in 9mm.

I noticed that I can swap slides, barrels, and magazines. Not that I need to, but I was wondering if I did need to for some reason would there be any problem with doing that? Looks like everything would work fine. Am I missing anything?

I recently purchased a P229R. I didn't like the E2 grip either. I ordered a Hogue wrap around with finger grooves. Fits great now. I plan to shoot mine this week end.

No idea about swapping slides etc.

I have a standard P229R non-E2 in .40cal. I put the Hogue grips w/finger grooves on it and enjoy shooting it more.

2 different frames, if it works it works.
appears to be 2 different dust covers, unless it's just the shooting angle.

+1 hogue finger grooves

Is there a local gunsmith you could show them to? Sig service may be able to tell you also.

Bare Arms up in Noblesville has a gunsmith come in at least one Saturday a month.

the frames are the same but a 229 slide is stronger to accept 357 sig and 40 cal

so basically you could turn your m11 a1 in a 40 cal non rail 229
or your m11 a1 into a non existant m11a1 with rail

but im not sure you could turn your m11 into a 40 cal it is a milled slide instead of the 228 stamped so its possible

why you want to do any of this sheer boredom

Didn't say I wanted to. I was just curious in that I tried it and the 9mm slide and barrel would fit on the P229 frame. And the 40mm slide and barrel would fit on the M11a1 frame.

I was just wondering in case I ever wanted to do some swapping around. I think I found my answer later elsewhere.

Thanks.

I'd want to make sure that the locking inserts are compatible as well; right caliber and shape. Check the markings on yours for a start.

Thanks. I checked that out. And found the following on the Sig Sauer website:

Quote:
If you have a P229 with an Exeter, NH frame and 15rd magazine capacity (if the magazine included with the pistol from the factory was a 15rd magazine), then all of the above conversion / caliber exchange kits will work.

Sig Sauer P229 Conversion Kits
Mine came with the 15 round magazine, so it should work. I took the locking insert out of both of mine, and checked them with calipers. Measurements of all areas are the same.

So I guess if the upper went bad in one, and the lower in the other one would go bad, I could do a swap in an emergency.

I can't foresee that happening. But was just interested in finding out.
