Point taken, Bear.

My point was that buyers are paying the jacked up price that sellers (retailers if you will) are getting. I say "getting" because the inventory appears to be substantially depleted based on my limited research and comments herein. If the sellers weren't getting these prices, they would be lowering them to move the inventory. Again, abnormal demand.

paying high price because they think the next time they go back, the shelves will be empty.

Paying higher prices and emptying the shelves because they fear the shelves will be empty the next time. Not to belabor the point but...abnormal demand.

Bo Tach

I just got an order from Botach. Supposed to be for P229 15 rounders. They shipped P226 mags that were covered in gook and marked LE/military only 1994. Check their online reviews...caveat emptor!!!!

Have a P226 so can use them but will stick with suppliers like Top Gun.

As soon as all this happened I knew people were going to start buying them out. I picked up 5x 20 round Mec-Gars from 44mag for like $28 a piece. GregCote is another good source. I'm sure they are both back ordered right now.

Strange, I ordered Mec-Gar P226 .40 15-round mags from Botach on January 3rd. Received them yesterday, brand new in Mec-Gar packaging with not a scratch.

I guess I got lucky, Botach seems to be hit or miss....

They were $45 each with free shipping. Not sure what the normal price is for these, but I was having a hard time finding them elsewhere. They are Mec-Gar 13 with +2.

I just picked up a new P226 Elite Stainless .40, it came with only 10-round mags, wanted to upsize. My state is not limited to 10-round mags.

Botach still shows them in stock here-

Picked two Mec-Gar P226 9mm 10rd mags (CA legal) on ebay yesterday for $33.95 each and free delivery. Was out and about today at a few different gun/ammo stores here locally today and looked for them and there are NONE to be found. Went back to ebay to try and buy a few more and the guy was sold out. He only 9 to begin with so I suppose I'm pretty lucky that I was able to get the two I got. I don't pick up my P226 until next week so now I will have 4 total which is better than two right?

I didn't get hit in the price gouging or market reaction or whatever one chooses to call it.

I was bulking up my modest little collection before election day. In fact, I paid for a rifle the weekend before election day and picked it on election day. Way I saw it: Overconfidence among gun owners about a Romney victory meant -- to me -- buy before, not after election day. As optimistic as a lot of people were, I've been following politics a long time, and it struck me the money up front would be, at worst, the money up front. The green not spent ... well, I'd be paying higher prices. Since we were talking cash, I saw no reason not to go spend the discretionary cash at the time.

Day after Newton, I said, "Uh oh" and bought locally or ordered anything I might want. Oddly enough, the only things still on back order are .22LR-related: mags from S&W and Ruger, to be exact. Will probably get 'em before the government does something stupid, but if not I'll probably live.

POTUS' re-election was Strike 1 against "normal" conditions for the market. Newton was Strike 2. The reactions to 1 and 2 together are a short-term strike 3...at least I hope it's short term. We know makers are running their production lines as much as they can.

Put another way, firearms and all things related were already moving out pretty nicely. November and December were the equivalent of someone suddenly standing on the gas pedal. Now we'll see what the engine can take.

Great time to have 1,000 rounds of everything you shoot already tucked back. I got there recently, but I'm still keeping an eye out for REASONABLE deals re ammunition and magazines.

In the meantime, it's once a week to the range with a variety of .22s just to keep sharp on the fundamentals.

All you can do is put your name on a list and wait. That's what I did.
