SP2022 Problems

Hello all, just registered so this is my first post.
I recently acquired my first Sig, a SP2022.
I finally got to take it to the range today and had problems from the start.

I put in a mag, pull back the slide, pull the trigger, bang.
Pull the trigger again, nothing. The hammer was not fully cocked.
I could slightly pull back the hammer then fire again.

I tried several different ammo types, and this occurs on all. Herters 115g FMJ, RWS 124g FMJ, Federal 115g FMJ, PMC Starfire 124g HP, Hornady Critical Duty 135g +P HP, nothing made any difference.
The gun will not fully cock the hammer with any.

I tried two different mags, loaded with 5 rounds, fully loaded, no dice.
I did break down the gun and clean before the range trip as advised in the manual. Both mags were cleaned and oiled as well.
At the range, I did break down the gun and re-assemble multiple times to verify that everything was in order. No dice.

As an experiment, I tried keeping the trigger squeezed through the whole cycle. Low and behold, the hammer would full cock....most of the time.

Has anyone else had this problem? I will be contacting Sig on Monday for a possible solution or return.

It sure is a bummer that my new Sig was a lemon out of the box.

Interesting problem! Hopefully one of the more experienced Sig experts will chime in on this for you.

Q: When you manually rack the slide, will the hammer go to full cock? Does it sometimes go to full cock and then fall to half cock? If so, there may be something wrong with the sear & hammer cock engagement. Just a wild guess as know next to nothing about Sig inner mechanicals.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I will definitely call Sig Monday.

The hammer does full cock when I rack the slide and fires the first shot fine. The hammer will not fully cock on subsequent shots. It is back, but not cocked fully. I have to manually cock it about another 1/16" or so.

I am giving her a good cleaning and oiling now. I fear she will need a trip back to NH in the near future...

Interesting that it's only 1/16". I would definitely not use the gun again until you get it resolved. Sounds like a trip back to the factory is in order.

Please post back with what happens.

Thanks, I will definitely let you guys know how it goes. I'm sure Sig will take care of it, just a little annoying to have this sort of issue.

That sounds like the same problem I had with my P226 when I bought it. I called Sig and they emailed me a Fedx over night lable, I sent the gun back and they fixed the problem. I had the gun back with in a week 1/2. No problems since then.

I have an SP022 in 9mm. There is no "half-cock" position. Sounds like something is wrong.

How far did you disassemble it when you cleaned it?

I own a 9mm 2022 and I haven't had any issues, I agree with the others and it should be put up and not used until it makes a visit with Exeter. It is a shame to hear of problems from such a great pistol. I am sure that Sig will have it up and running for you and back in your hands.

I'm having the same exact problem. Brand new out of the box - just bought it a couple days ago. Mine will also not eject the spent cases some of the time, but when it does cycle correctly, the hammer does not cock fully. I didn't try to pull the hammer back any farther. Will have to call Sig tomorrow and see about getting this resolved.

Sounds like Sig might need to recall a few of their 2022s

On a high note, sights were dead on and it shoots like a dream - when it shoots...

Well, to begin with, it was an entire week of calling before I actually got a live person on the phone. Considering the SHOT show was going on and the volume of guns that are being sold at the present time, this was expected.

The customer service agent was great once I finally got someone on the phone. Told him my problem and he promptly got my info and sent out a shipping label.

I Shipped it out on the 21st. Sig received it in the 23rd. Shipped it back to me on the 25th.
I had a FedEx door tag on my door today. I got them to hold it at the FedEx facility, will pick it up tomorrow.
I'll try to get out to the range this weekend and see how it does.
Keeping my fingers crossed that Sig throws in a spare mag for the trouble...those things are like unicorns these days!

+1 on Sig mags being as rare as unicorns, but don't hold your breath for a freebie like that.

But I for one would like to hear an update after you get back from the range this weekend. Please keep us posted.

From what I have read, it seems to be more in the .40 cal versions.
