First outing with new p226 rtss

Went to the range and put 150 rounds down the pipe. Things I noticed. I had to change my grip a bit from what I am used to. I shoot with my thumb up against the frame and by doing so I was depressing the mag release and preventing the slide from locking back on last round. At one time I must have had my thumb pressing under the lever because it locked back in the middle of the mag. Once I realized my thumb position I switched my grip to have my thumb out a bit more. No problem after that. I had two incidents where the when the slide was released on a fresh mag it didn't strip a round. I think it was from magazines that I failed to insert all the way. No biggie once I adjusted to compensate. I am used to shooting m&p handguns so I had to get used to this. For the first time out I was happy with the accuracy I got. Even the DA pull I was able to hit center most times. The trigger is amazing on this gun. I love it. Here is one 12 round mag worth of hits. It is hitting a tiny bit to the right. I am not sure if it is me or if the sights need to be adjusted a bit.

Not the best group I ever shot. Shot at 25 ft. It measured 4.5 inches but for the first time out with it I am happy. It can only get better. Does Sig sight in their handguns before shipping?

The gun came with two mags made in USA and 3 from Italy. They were super tough. It was a pain to load them. I need to load and unload them to break them in a bit. The stringing shots are from the fact I wasn't sure of the type of hold so I was suppose to use. Figured it out after a bit I think.

i place my strong/shooting hand thumb over the weak thumb.

load the mags & let 'em set for a few days, give your thumb a chance to stop bleeding, just kidding.

it'll get better.

They hurt like hell. hahaha.

When I shoot my M&Ps I shoot with my shooting thumb layed on top of my weak hand thumb pressed up against the frame. Now I with the sig I am holding my strong hand thumb out a bit and wrapping it around the base of the other thumb.

I place my strong hand thumb directly over the first knuckle of my weak hand thumb. It doesn't apply any pressure to the weapon.

You'll find a grip that works for you. And you're right, your groups will get tighter.

Congrats on purchasing a fantastic pistol.

The grip you described is similar to the one I adopted today. One thing I love about this gun is how solid it feels. My M&Ps are accurate and good shooters but have a decent rattle to them between the slide and frame. I know it makes no difference at all but it is there just like with most handguns I have ever handled. However, this p226 is nice and tight. It has slight movement between the frame and the slide. Not much at all. It just feels solid. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy

Is there a sticky on proper lube points for this gun? I just wipe down the outside of the barrel with some oil, put a drop on the hammer spring, and grease the guide rails, the front of the barrel (where you get the the smiley on the barrel), and the top of the breech block. Oh, I also put a drop of oil under the decocker. I know it rubs the frame because I can the scratch mark from it (like on a FAL or AK safety). I just figured it couldn't hurt since there is rubbing there.
