I realize this is an old thread but this is what I have. Older version of the P229 in .40. The frame is marked "Made in Germany" and in great shape. There are no proof marks on the slide but the grip date is November 94. Had it for years now want to convert to a 9mm. I have the Sig .22 conversion kit and runs well. Removed the locking insert and the only stamping on it is 40. Not 40/357 or any dots. This is not the 229-1 magazine version and came with a pre-ban magazine. Called Sig last week about getting a SRT kit and questioned about their legacy conversion kits. The guy said he was not sure if the kit would work and that it was an armorer level install. I certainly can do the simple installation. Does anyone have any idea if I would need to purchase the 9mm locking insert?

Thanks

Mike

that's ok, 229 was initially in 40 & 357sig would be added, is yours an ad or ae s/n??

there's only a few all german/proofed 229's, some are posted here.

the slide itself is a straight swap but you will need the 9mm locking insert.

you might want to put up a wtb add here & a few other sites for the 228/229-9mm locking insert.

pics:
228/229/9, 3 dot insert
later, early 40/357 insert

This thread got me curious, so I pulled the locking block out of my 9mm 229 and it has no markings but when I look closely, I see machining marks. I thought MIM is adopted so machining is not required. What have I got here? I bought the pistol in 2011 new in box, don't recall the date from the box and can't look because it was one of many things that went missing a few years ago. Really annoys me too that the case went missing with everything in it except the gun and mags.

My phone finally showed pictures. So the 6 dots that are visible with the slide off means it is the older 228/229 9mm one. Got it.

Do you have the older style 13rd 9mm P229, or the newer 15rd (wider mag base) P229-1? From your description of the locking insert, I suspect you have the older style that uses the straight sided P228/P229 mags.

Sig began transitioning to a single standard .40/.357 (P229-1 in 9mm) frame, including locking block, for all three calibers in late 2010, but the transition took place over an extended period of time so it is quite possible that a 2011 9mm P229 like yours could have the old P228 style frame. I can't remember if the newer "universal" locking insert has four dots, or no dots.

Thanks, yes you are correct. Mine is the older style with the13 end mags. It happily uses the 15 and 18+2 mags for my 226 as well which gives a bit of flexibility when plinking.
