First 9mm

I am looking to buy my first 9mm. Up until now I have owned a couple of older Hi Standard 22 target pistols and some long guns. I think I want a composite gun and I've pretty much narrowed down my choices to the PX-4 Storm, M&P, and the 2022. The problem I'm having is that none of the ranges in the Chicago-land area rent the 2022. On of the ones closest to my house rents 229's and 226's but not the 2022.

My question is does the 2022 shoot reasonably similar to either the 229 or the 226 where if I shoot them and like them, as long as the 2022 feels nice in my hand it would be a good choice? Every review I've seen on the 2022 has been great but I'd really like to have a feel for it before I buy it.

I have a SP2022 and P226s and P229.

IMO if you like shooting a P226 or P229 then very likely you will like the SP2022. very similar to those in many ways but in a poly frame.

The only two pistols that I have bought without trying first were the SP2022 and the Walther PPQ and I have been extremely happy with both. I would buy a 9MM Walther PPQ over any other striker fired pistol though they are very hard to find..

Good luck!

many folks here swear by the 2022, i don't have one but have several 226's & 229's.

maybe someone in your area will see this post & offer up a chance to meet & let you wring out a 2022.

welcome from az

Go with what feels right in your hand. If it feels right, chances are it will shoot right for you.
If you have shot a Sig and liked it, the 2022 will serve you well. I haven't really ever heard bad reports on it. Lots say it is their favorite Sig.

They are a bit hard to find right now for some reason (like, um, almost all popular guns) but I second your recommendation. Some beginner gun owners that are friends of mine (husband and wife) were given a KelTec .32 cal for their first gun and I didn't say much to them about it but deftly steered them into getting a G19 too (ostensibly for home defense) and now they are totally hooked on it. It's such a nice shooter and practical gun. Also recommend the Glock 26 as it will take all the same magazines. In my opinion every gun owner should have at least one Glock in 9mm.

Glocks have been around a long time and carried by a lot of pros on duty.
My thought is this political storm will die down, and in about a year or so there will be oppourtunities abound from all the panic buying now. Just think of all the guns that will never get past a box or two.

I do not have the 2022, but read good reviews about it. I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it. Like all Sig's they are fine pieces of work and shoot like a gun should shoot. Straight down the range right out of the box.

I just recently purchased a SP2022 and love it. I previously owned a Glock 19 and was satisfied with it, but not impressed. I currently own a 2022 9mm and a Browning Hi Power 9mm. The 2022 fits my hand like a glove. Love the one piece grip. Pretty accurate and super fun to shoot!

Sig SP2022!

I own the 2022 9mm and me as well as my wife love it! Fits my large hands perfect, I've only compared it to a S&W sigma witch is a Glock clone. Don't mind the S&W but the Sig is soooo comfy would never trade or sell.
