I just picked up a few P-239 40 Sigs with 40 cal magazines, Thinking about buying a 357 Sig barrel & converting one to the 357 Sig caliber,

Sig & many others say that I need to purchase new 357 mags to shoot the 357 round & others say no or don't know the answer, It does look to me that the Sig 357 mags have a little indentation in them & may be a little smaller than the 40's

but I would think that I should be able to shoot both the 357 cal & the 40 cal rounds using my 40 cal mags,

I can see that there may be a problem trying to shoot 40 cal ammo using the 357 mags I think the 40 cal ammo may be to tight for the mags,

Anyone have the proper answer?

Thanks

I thought along the same lines. I called SIG direct, and the answer was NO - the .357 SIG mag for the P239 is different and carries a different Part #. You need a Barrel and Magazine

to switch from .40 S&W to .357 SIG on a P239. ( I suspect the single stack is a big part ) JB

You are on the right track.

For the P239, all .40 mags will shoot .40 AND .357 Sig (I have done both many times). The .357 Sig mags (It will says which it is on the side of the magazine) will only shoot .357 Sig as the mags are tapered specifically for that round. Hope that helps

Thanks AZ I thought that I would be able to use the 40 cal mags for both rounds too, I do see where the 357 mags do have a taper & may cause problems shooting 40 ammo,

At first I thought it was just a marketing ploy from Sig to have the consumer purchase more mags or a liability thing.

Yep, I have the drop in barrels for 2 Sigs ( P239 & SP2340 ) both in .40S&W and the SigPro mags actually are stamped .40S&W / .357sig.

Grumpy, Can I use the 2340 mags in the P-239 or will the mag stick out too far ? see the 2340 mags has the finger rest or pierce grip on the bottom of the mag.

All my mags are stamped 40 cal..

Thanks

I dont think that will work, but I am open to be proven wrong.

You mean use a double stack mag in a single stack pistol????

Ah, No!

If you have a P239 in .40S&W you can use / load those mags with either .40S&W or .357sig ( just not the other way around).

Said another way, If you own a P239 in .40S&W and you want to shoot .357sig through it all you need to buy is the drop in barrel. The .40S&W mags will hold & feed .357sig.

However if you own a P239 in .357sig (from the factory) those mags will not hold & feed a .40S&W due to the shape of the .357sig mags.

They are formed to the shape of the necked down .40 case at the front of the mag and it wont work.

Why Sig did this is beyond my understanding!

Yeah I think a double stack magazine would be kind of a tight fit in a P-239. Real tight.lol

What I meant was is there a sig mag or a aftermarket mag that will work for the 239 that is stamped both 40 & 357 cal like the 226 & 229's are?

I'm very thankfull for all the info here & knowing that my 40 cal mags will work with the 357 round.

That was my main question & You guy's answered it..

Thanks
