P229 in California

Unfortunately for me I live in California. My Sig P229 EE has the hideous LCI and engraving. I considering on buying a slide without the LCI but torn on the price. I haven't really seen where I could get the slide only and preferably the EE Slide. All I've seen are the exchange kits. Still debating if its worth it....Any thoughts?

I've purchased a couple of P229 slides on the used market, complete with barrel, recoil spring and guide, and sights for less than $200. Check the classifieds here and on GunBroker etc.

I think what is happening is that as some LE entities replace their 40's with 9mm (the thing to do, nowadays - gotta follow the herd), in places like CA they are destroying the frames rather than reselling the guns . . . and some enterprising souls are saving some of the un-numbered parts for the used market.

Besides slides, some of the LEO turn-ins represent excellent buys (though tough to find in CA I guess). I've purchased two P229's is great shape, starting at just over $400. Be sure you get a DA/SA if that's what you prefer, the DAO guns go for less.
Storm Chaser and jtdunc like this.

i to live in the fine state of confusion and share your dilemma. i bought a .357 sig conversion kit for my 229 Elite and have a blast every time at the range, while slowly going broke with the cost of ammo for it.
my advice: don't let the silly state of confusion markings and such bother you, go out shoot and have fun!

by the way: the mag safety spring/catch in the locking block will break quite often and so will the lci, i have learned how to replace them. SIG will send you replacement parts for free but after a while charge you for them.
never use a SIG that has compromised functionality!

Thanks for the reply's guys! I did a little digging and it looks like certain slides will only work for certain P229 frames. That is where my brain starts to fart a bit. My P229 EE DA/SA is newer and has a rail with E2 grips. Which slide should I be looking for?

I feel your pain. I live here too. My solution has been to buy Sigs that don't have the unwanted features. In the last couple of years, the only models I've purchased brand new were the 2022 and the 239. No mag disco and no LCI

Welcome from near the cap city.

I've been torn for awhile with the "get a p239 or P229" dilemma. I'm still going to get a P239 in the future because of the slimmer feel and its a DA/SA. I don't see to many DA/SA single stack pistols.

I see used P229 slides all the time on Gunbroker for usually less than $300 complete. If it was me, I'd definitely swap the slide. That stupid CA safety junk sucks. Both my P229's do not have them.

The locking insert can be found on eBay to remove the mag disconnect.

From my understanding, the newer model P229/P226 don't need anything other than remove pin, spring and bar.....

Yes, but I'd rather have the original part instead of a non-working CA modified part I tampered with to make it non-functional.
