Sorry if this was asked before. I have a W.German 226 with stock contrast sights, i want to change them to nite sights. I just wanted to know how I go about finding the corect height for replacements. Are the stock sights #8 front and rear or or they a different number combo. Thanks for the helpl.

EDIT: just read figiie's post
I thought the Sig "standard" was

9mm & .357 Sig = 8/8 f/r
.40 S&W = 6/8 f/r

regardless of gun.

All of my 9mms ('96 P226 w/NS, '94 P228) are 8/8, but so is my '94 .40 P229. ??? And they all shoot to POA.
My .45 P245 is 7/8 f/r. I wonder if they changed the front sight before or after they shot the test target. :D

SIG Sight Page

Here is a screen shot of the old sights recommended by SIG Arms

The P229 .40 and P229 9, .357 were not on this page so I added them.

Other sight numbers can be used to "sight in" an individual pistol. The higher number on the sight will raise the impact, Front and Rear as stated.

This page continues along the line that 9mm and .357 SIG use 8/8 sights and .40S&W and .45ACP in the P220 use 6/8 f/r

Just for general information - Use the sight numbers you like - many people use a #10 rear sight to get those groups up. :)

Just for the interest of possibly only gearheads my .45 P220 has 8/7 f/r.

However, it is not so weird if you analyze it like I was inclined to do. Starting with the standard 6/8 sights for .45 P220, the 8 (increase of 2 from 6) sight in front raises the POI up 2'', while the 7 (decrease of 1 from 8) rear sight lowers the POI down 2" for a net change to the POI of zero (from Note 2 in fjgiie's post). I guess there is more than one way to set your sights. :D

I apologize for the boring analysis but the engineer in me got the best of me.
