Newbie here once again.

Information: 14+ year old p220 .45 caliber Sig

Problems:

Slight Rust on magazine

Never been cleaned or lubricated

paint is not in best condition

Firing pin is original as is the spring

Barrel a little loose

I want to take it to the gun smith and have it lubed/cleaned. He said 30 bucks to field strip it, clean it, lube it. Great gunsmithman by the way. Checked into him.

Should I have the spring and firing pin replaced? I think I will. How much would the spring and firing pin be since the gun is so dang old. Also, where can I find a magazine to fit it. It only holds 7 rounds in the magazine and I only have one. Also, how do I paint it or clean it up to make it look like new.

I want the gun to be perfect in every aspect. No, I do not want to purchase a new one or get rid of this one I got it for a great deal from a good friend. Shoots fine as of right now. He hardly shot it. It's been in a drawer for years now.

Also, can the barrel be made unloose or is that just a problem? Are new grips screws availabe at the gunsmith? Like I said, I want it to look great, perform great, and be as reliable as it can be!

Don't know if a new firing pin is needed unless something wrong can be identified with the original.

Would not at all hurt to respring the entire pistol. A Recoil spring is about $9 and a parts kit is about $26 and includes a number of springs. Grip screws come in the parts kits.

Spring kits and magazines can be had at Top Gun Supply. Outstanding service! I would also recommend the Sig Sauer Armorers Course DVD as a reference tool so that you can do the stripping yourself. It will pay for itself many times over!

Barrel loose with the slide back or forward?

Barrel is in a floating condition when the slide is locked back (normal), it should be tight when the slide is forward. Barrel should be tight to the slide. Not as critical for the slide to be as tight to the frame.

Owners Manual PDF Download it, Print it, and Read it.

Light rust can be removed by using Gun Oil on 0000 Steel Wool and GENTLY rubbing. Keep it oiled and it should be fine.

Use the 30 bucks to buy ammo!

Have you considered sending it to Sig Sauer for one of their packages? You can also explain to them the situation so they can better check.

Congratulations - you've bought a great Sig.

Here's my P220 in .45 cal

It's got a very nice trigger.

I'd respring the gun and learn how to clean it yourself.

It's not hard and needs to be done as you shoot it.

Believe me you're goona love this gun.
