Any opinions I like the 229 better shooting but thinking of picking up the g19 for weight difference for concealed carry .

Ill only comment on the g19. My wife has one and I absolutely hate this gun. i dont have any preference towards manufacturers but her glock scares the hell out of me. The chance for an AD on that gun is ridiculously high with the trigger system. It feels very light and fires way to easily for my liking. She has wanted a glock for 10 years and finally bought one 2 months ago. Shes got slide bite both times shes shot it (granted its more user error than the gun). Since I got my 250 she shot it once with zero chance of slide bite. Shes far more accurate shooting my sig than her precious g19 and says she feels much more confident with mine than hers, however refuses to give it up.

I dont dispute that glocks are durable and seem to be well built but for myself personally they dont feel as safe and user controlled as my sig. My sister in law had the same model and put a round in the floor down range preparing to shoot. She sold it and since got a s&w shield and a ruger sr9c and says she feels alot safer carrying either of those.

This is just my personal opinion and being new to shooting take it with a grain of salt.

Own them both and love them equal. Find the Glock easier to conceal due to its weight. P229R does well in my shoulder holster after I altered to fit. Hard to fin holsters of the shelf for the Sig, being Sig had what seems to be 100's of models for the same P229 model #. The only reason I bought the 229 was I wanted a hammer gun in the shoulder rig. Nerves have me re-racking the 19 to reset the (fake hammer). The other reason I like the Sig, I manually pull the hammer for the first shot. Both great guns and I would advise going to a range and firing both and make up your own mind

Consider CZ P07 Duty 9mm, 17 rds slim, light, inexpensive and accurate.

If you want a light weight Glock, get a G26. The P229 trounces the G19 at that size. I do own both and use the G19 as a beater gun in my ATV. I you want a large lightweight polymer gun then the Walther PPQ sets the standard.

If you would have asked this question a year or two ago I would be singing my G19's praises. The pistol is light, accurate and incredibly reliable. The thing I like about my Glock is that it doesn't need to be "babied," it just works every time I pull the trigger.

All that said, it does not get much range time anymore and I no longer carry it. The reason it gets less range time is because I don't like the trigger as much as other firearms I own.

As for carry, I just hear about way too many accidental discharges with Glock's. I think the trigger pull is around 5 lb's and there is no safety. Personally, I just don't feel as comfortable with that. Give me a 10 lb trigger or a safety, but that's just personal preference (I like SAO guns).

I would choose the 229, especially if it were for carry.

p229.

just my humble opinion, but Blocks are ugly as hell. a Sig is beautiful with supple curves and lines. Both are reliable. Why not look good at the same time?

On a serious note, I guess it will depend on your build frame and size. I carry an m11-a1 iwb all day no problem and before that a p220 sas carry. I'm 5'11'', 200lbs. ymmv but I'd say p229 all day. good holster AND good belt will mitigate any weight difference, imho.

I have only been doing this for a few years....I started with a Glock 17, 19 and 27 because that is what friends got me using.

Now that I have gotten more experience and have been branching out I have obtained a P229 Elite .4. I am quickly losing interest in the G 17, 19 and am considering moving them to allow for more Sigs.

IMHO......

I would tend to agree with Mystro on the G19 as being a great beat around gun. That's a more important niche to fill than it sounds, however, and the Glock, being almost indestructable and impervious to the elements, fills it very well indeed. If you want to keep a firearm on an ATV, boat or airplane a Glock has few equals. That said, I could never get comfortable with carrying my G19 chambered, and much prefer my P228 or P239. Accuracy between the two makes is pretty much a tie, although I find recoil to be considerably snappier with the Glock, especially firing self defense ammunition.

Glocks are like Microsoft. It may do the job, and a lot of people have them, but that doesn't mean they are any good.

What bothers me about Glocks is that when I've told people I have a handgun, they ask "is it a Glock?"

To me, that's the sign of good marketing. I don't need to follow the masses, or get the same handgun that many cops use.

Plus, I think Glocks are ugly as sin.

I just got my p229 and I love it, no doubt

I also have a Glock 17 which is 1/2 inch longer and taller than g19. I wished I had gotten g19. It shoots great and zero malfunction so far. It's much lighter than p229.

If I were to CC I would buy a g19 or g26, not a Sig. Glocks have 3 internal safeties, the only way to make it discharge is if you fully depress the trigger. It has consistent 5.5 lb trigger so no need to adjust to DA/SA. It's all about what you are comfortable with

I carry now P229 dark elite, quality is nice
I'm sick o polymer pistols
Last one I had was HK 45C and Ruger SR9.
Sig is nicer, tried many guns including Glock, they are all good and accurate, as long as you are
Comparing cars and guns is garbage, Sig is safer to carry an heavier, looks better and mine cost more than Glock
All guns nowadays are good quality, just depends what you like and feel comfortable with
Good luck with your decision

I'll weigh in as well.

I do not own a 229, I do own a 226 and a G19. The 226 is my go to war gun and I would personally carry this one over any other, just personal preference.

Now, on to the G19. The stock trigger is complete ***. It is awful, it is a surefire ticket to pulling shots because it is stiff as hell and you can't feel it at all. If you go with a G19, you will want an experienced person to put in a Ghost Trigger, reduce that pull weight and shorten the reset. That's what I did. Mine is set to pull at 3.5 lbs and the reset is super short. I also have True Glow sights, which are a great upgrade and I use mine mostly for Glock competitions, but have carried it without problems.

If you plan on keeping it a stock G19, DO NOT BUY IT AND INTEND ON CARRYING IT. You will hate it.

I do like the P229, but I have to tell you, if you want light, consider the Walther PPQ if you can find one. The trigger is probably the best you'll ever find and it is a wonderful gun. I can tell you the 229 is also great, but in the end, it is preference. I would have to have all of the trigger action work on my 229 that I did on my 226 if I went that route.

If I knew I was going to use one in an actual situation and the gun would be confiscated as a result, I'd suggest the Glock.

Sigs Custom Shop offers a Action Enhancement package that is well worth the money. I had it done and the entire gun comes back smoother. Sigs start out very good so that is saying something. The Walther PPQ is THE best single action polymer trigger you can find. It is the only gun that the action is fully cocked. My heavily modded Glocks dont come close to the PPQ right out of the box.

In reading some of the comments on this thread and in general opinions across the gun world, I don’t get the hatred of the appearance of GLOCKs. GLOCKs are beautiful weapons BECAUSE of their simplicity not in spite of it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but a GLOCK is a nice looking gun just due to its simple lines and functionality. Don’t get me wrong, SIGs are great looking guns as well, just in a different way. Personally I like smooth and simple as opposed to notches, grooves, levers, excess bulky metal, and over-engineered mechanisms. SIGs are a nice happy medium IMO – classic, almost 1911 look and feel without TOO much bulk.

I think it's a personal choice. I carried both g17 and g22 on and off duty for years, and never liked either one. This was not my choice, they were department issued. Now I'm retired, I like the feel of the P229R and P226R, and I also shoot them a lot better then I did with my Glock. All in .40 cal.. I don't care much about looks when it comes to firearms. I go with putting rounds on target, and ergonomics. I have held the g19, and that's why I carry a P229R. In my book looks don't stop a threat, accurate shots stop the threat.
Go with the one you shoot best.

Awesome necro thread rehash. Lol. Seriously, this is a good comparison. having duty carried both they both have major advantages over each other, but they are both ultimately reliable guns that you can count on. As for slide bite, that happens because people want to ride as high as possible to reduce felt recoil. I have ruined many a glove due to this with the glock. But it is always the operators fault for having to high a grip.

As for safe weapon, you are correct, if the people above had an AD, they failed the cardinal rule 1. Finger OFF the TRIGGER until you are ready to fire. They obviously did not know that rule. having said that, the initial DA trigger pull of the sig is certainly safer
