Tapered(virtus/new) non tapered(legacy/old). They look the similar from the front, the back portion of the lugs are the important piece. The tapered barrel extension is pretty obvious. Legacy extension has squared relief cuts for the lug. You have to match the bolt and extension. Any of the barrels will fit in any of the uppers and work, with the right bolt. Rattler uses a shorter gas system and op rod than the virtus/ legacy.

I am assuming the barrel came with the MCX, correct? If the Bolt has been updated to the tapered Virtus but the legacy barrel is still on the rifle, it will not work.
