I am curious to see if anyone is having problems loading mags either full or empty when the bolt is closed? I have a new SIG 516 GEN II that was made in July 2012 and I can only load mags when the bolt is open.
I've found that with the bolt open the mag slips right in and locks, but with the bolt closed I need to put the mag in the well, and give it a good slap on the bottom with the palm of my hand
Sounds like something other than a rifle related post, but honest, I'm talking about seating mags with the bolt closed!
Sounds normal to me since you're compressing the mag spring against the carrier via the ammunition. With a full mag that has a new spring, you may need to strongly whack the magazine to get it to lock into the magwell.
That or lock the bolt carrier back.
