How To: Attach a picture to a post or reply

I've created this tutorial in response to the frequent questions on how to attach a photo to a post. There are other methods available to attach pictures, such as Dropbox or other file sharing websites, but I thought I'd keep this within the scope of using the tools available on SIG Talk. I am open to any suggestions or edits to make this tutorial more understandable and user friendly.

Here is a screen shot of the "Go Advanced" edit window. I have a yellow arrow pointing to the paper clip icon. Click on this icon.

Here is a screen shot of the screen you will see after clicking the paper icon. You will want to click the button the yellow arrow is pointing toward, Browse . . .

You will get an explorer window that allows you to go through your files on your computer. Find the photo you want to upload and click it. You can either double click the file or single click and then hit the open button on that window.

When you have done this, this picture below will show up. The name of the file I clicked for this demonstration is "Karl Nill Rhomlas P229.jpg" If the correct name of the file you have selected shows up here, you are ready for the next step, which is to push the "upload" button the yellow arrow points to.

Once the upload is complete, and not before, the screen will display the message as I've pointed to in this next picture, showing the current attachments. You can repeat this process as often as you like until all the pictures you want to attach to the post are showing. Once you have selected all the pictures you want to attach to the post, click the "close this window" button in the top right hand corner and you will go back to the original edit screen.

If you'd like to see your pictures prior to posting, you can hit the "Preview Post" button adjacent to the "Submit Post" button.

I know several members like to use a file sharing website such as Dropbox or numerous others. The reason I don't like to use these services is that you are up to the whims of the website as to whether your picture will remain visible or not. By submitting as an attachment or uploading through my phone, I maintain the control of whether the pictures continues to show or not. Often times, you will see a picture on a forum that looks like a broken piece of film. This is a visual display of the condition I'm trying to describe here. If the web site host of your pictures changes their address or the address of your pictures, the forum the pictures are posted on can no longer find these pictures and you see the broken film.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to send me a PM.

I upload my pictures to Google's Picasa website. When linking to photos, the URL contains the size in it. Simply changing the number changes the size. Example:

My windows on my iphone before using the wonderful Tapatalk app were very small and similar to your edit screens but were harder ti read and formatting was a little different, it would only allow me to add one pic per post. If you went to add another pic it would just replace previous pic.
Life is good now using Tapatalk app for iPhone and posting , searching and adding multiple pics easily now! Highly recommend! Cheers from happy camper! This of course is mainly fir those using iphone as i do all the time, busy off and on..

How do I re-size an attachment photo? Seems like they always attach as a thumbnail instead of being able to insert the photo in actual size.

Can I insert an image that isn't a URL?

The instructions I created are to put an attachment in your post of a picture on your computer. Others use a file sharing site like dropbox or smugmug. To post a scalable picture, I post from my not-so-smartphone using Tap A Talk.

For posting in the body of your post you must use an external host.

I recommend Imgur

Free, easy to use, no storage limit and no email issues

If you want to attach an image go to post #1 in this thread and follow the directions.

Yes, there is!

I make sure that SIG rifle range reports are nicely archived on the SIGTalk server.

1. Upload images as attachments.
2. "Submit Reply."
3. Right click Attachments, open in new page.
4. Copy URL of Attachment opened in new page.
5. EDIT post.
6. Paste [IMG]URL of said Attachment[/IMG]
7. Save changes.

Tadaa!

Allow me to pimp my thread!

http://sigtalk.com/sig-sauer-rifles/...t-threads.html

If you'd notice, the attachments are posted as full images as well...

The only reason some pictures aren't listed as Attachments is that they may have been attached in some other post.

All that matters is the URL to the full image, it doesn't matter what thread it was originally posted in.

Should this work for attaching a .gif file as well?
I tried to put one in GIF of the Day and it shows up as a thumbnail attachment,
Static, no motion. Any idea where I screwed up?
I'm refering to the attempted gif posting, not general life issues.

Mike55 - you can upload a GIF file as an attachment from either your computer or another website URL. The file must be <5.25MB in size. When you do that, the only way that the GIF will play is if one single clicks the attachment, at that time, the system will display a new page with the GIF "playing".

In order to have a GIF play in the post (not the attachment) you would need to have the GIF hosted on a separate site - for example:Imgur.

Once you have that GIF uploaded to the site you can copy the "bbcode" for the image and paste it into the body of the post like this: (for example here is the bbcode for the image below [Ximg]http://i.imgur.com/jY58Q9d.gif[/img] - the first X in front of IMG is there so that it won't play)

If you want to upload that same file as an attachment you would copy the "Original GIF Link" into the Upload file section shown in post 1. This is the sample code you copy and paste (http://i.imgur.com/jY58Q9d.gif) into the upload attachment space for this specific image.

It will look like this and if you single click on it, a pop-up will open and look just like the image above:
Attached Images
File Type: gif jY58Q9d.gif (655.2 KB, 6 views)
