Why are photos from this host 'censored'....?

Hello SigTalk IT team,

For a few years now I think, I have been uploading photos to https://imgbb.com to post here. Now it seems that the web address for the uploaded photo is censored (e.g. "http://*****") which takes the picture away from the post.

All of them that I've ever posted, and often they are important to the conversation at hand.

Is there a reason why this particular image host has now been 'censored'? Of course I can use other host sites, but this is a lot of pics going back.

Thanks.

The web address must be HTTPS. The link you posted is HTTP and is not a secure link and won't be processed through the site software. The full link that you posted that does contains the HTTPS should work without an issue.

Hmmm, I see. I just find it a bit weird. Here's an example.....the address for the photo itself does start with an https.....

https://i.*******/YjwqHYW/Build.jpg

...and since that's probably going to be 'censored', here's a snapshot of it (hosted on google photo)...

...so I guess i-b-b-.-c-o is the issue.

Is that an abbreviation/short for something that I'm missing?

I mean, it's not the worst thing...just a bit of a pain. And then even if it's somehow 'fixed' from here on, every link I've ever posted with that address is permanently censored and not automatically switched back to what it originally was.

Yes. Recently we discovered that spammers are using this host (*******) and is filtered on this site to reduce the number of spammers that you guys never see.

See the ****** above? The filter killed the address of i-b-b-.-c-o, I had entered the domain without the "-". That effectively breaks the link so the link will not resolve. Without resolution the image will not display.

Why not use imgur.com? It's free and works great on this site. Or just upload the image to the site database.

Yeah as I said, it's not a problem moving forward as I'll just use google photos or such. It's just that all the photos from before are gone and sometimes it's an important part of the discussion or something that's useful to go back and refer to.

That's why we encourage users to upload the images to the site database when an image is important to a discussion that will stay around for a long while.

Understood, it just stinks that it started out fine but then eventually got that way.

I agree with you! Anytime a 3rd party hosting site is involved it takes control away. Look what happened with Photobucket. That debacle (until they reversed their policy) must have eliminated half the images on this site.

Unfortunately the hosting site you used isn't doing enough to subvert spammers from using their site. Spammers are using infected images posted on that site and dropping them in posts they make on this site. No one would be aware of it, except those of us that can see the hidden images when we look closely at those "users" that we detect as spammers. The game of cat and mouse got to be too much - something that users here have no idea that we run down daily. The filter is used to break the link up so that the spam will not work on the site.

It's all trade-offs, unfortunately the spammers chose to use your hosting site. Perhaps in the future we will find that they give up on this site or use a different method. If so, we can always remove the filter, but until that happens, it'll have to stay in place.

Right, the Photobucket thing. I guess that potential always exists.
