PM request about an item I listed in Classifieds...

I recently posted an ad in the classifieds and received a PM for more photos of the item with a date stamp on it. I had no problem providing this, but I asked the user why, as I have never been asked for that before. The user then responded with the following: "Before I buy anything online, I want to see a picture of the item with the date, and sellers name, address on it. It helps reduce the chance of fraud. I'm sure you understand."
It made sense to me at first, but then I got to thinking if I was making myself susceptible to fraud. The user only has 10 posts on this forum and no feedback. Am I wrong for questioning this? I ended up selling the item elsewhere before I provided the photos of the item and information.

Just curious on what you would do in this situation.

Not sure if I posted this in the right section, so mods please modify if needed.

Often times buyers will request a picture with your name and date on it to verify it's not a picture ripped off from somewhere and you are scamming.

A word of advice: I would never put my name or address on the picture and send it to an unknown person. Ever. You have no idea what may happen with that pic or the information contained in it.

If they want proof that the picture is yours, take a newspaper from the day you take the picture and place it with the item. Send them that. If that's not acceptable to them, I would move on.

More pictures is a reasonable request. Date and time is weird, but is not private information, so not dangerous.

I have bought and sold a lot, and for me the key is communication in several emails.
Get an idea of the other guy, and he of me.
I have never had a bad deal.
