How to remove taper lok collar? 716G2 6.5 cm

I just got a 716G2 in 6.5 creedmoor. I'm in the process of installing the QD mount for my 338Ti-qd can.

Removing the stock compensator was really easy, however getting the taper lok collar off isn't! Since the collar is totally smooth, it doesn't have a good place to grip. I don't think it has any threads (my MCX taper lok collars don't).

Anyone run into a similar situation?

I used a hair dryer. No joy.

Nah, REAL heat. From a blow-torch or similar.

I have no experience using a torch - any recommendations?

EDIT: like using a torch or a heat gun and what temperature to not exceed?

I was able to get it removed by wrapping a flat head screw driver in duct tape and tapping on it with a hammer.
